The amazing Luther Vandross
I was and remain a huge fan, and even randomly (and briefly!) met her once in a pub in Camden. Taken far too soon and in tragic circumstances.
Worth a read if you don't know the full story.
Justice For Kirsty Campaign - Kirsty MacColl
Here you go Ed have a dance
No offence @MickyB but as with most artists they get defined by one song or a couple of songs that put them into the public eye, and often that doesn't reflect their wider catalogue.
Much of Kirsty's work was quite dark lyrically, even though upbeat musically. 'Elvis', her Fairytale of New York collaboration with The Pogues (she actually sang on many tracks with them) and maybe New England is all most people know her for. Actually, most of her work was quite different and diverse in terms of style too - Hispanic, country, dance - she never stuck to one thing, other than keeping a sharp sense of dark humour in a lot of her songs.
She also collaborated widely, not just The Pogues but Billy Bragg, The Smiths and others. She does backing vocals on more songs with more artists than you can shake a stick at!
I'd been looking on you tube and just wanted to get the spirit upbeat a little hence Elvis. You've saved me going back to look at the rest I just find one artist on the tube and see what comes up.
I even found Rick Astley playing AC/DC Highway to Hell.!!
Karen Carpenter taken far to early
Probably the greatest Showman of all times. Showing his versatility with this song.
