I sold my old power book Apple laptop on ebay at the beggining of December.

Described it as it was with photo's etc... was in fine working order with loadsa software etc.

The buyer sent me a message 2 weeks after receiving it saying it took like 10 mins to boot and 15 to load any program and wants a full refund.

    Where do I stand?

I really don't want to or can't really afford the refund and they could have done anything to the laptop to screw it up in 2 weeks making it super slow!

Was never like that when I had it and I only sold it as I picked up a little white macbook for cheap. Surely I sent a perfectly good item and they complained exactly 14 days after signing for it so they can get lost.

They've raised a paypal dispute which has put my paypal account into a held status of nearly -

paypal is ghay, always sides with whichever person (seller/buyer) who raises the issue first and in my experience only listen to one side of the argument

Lets face it 15 minutes to load a program?

    Thats bullshit.

    That's utter shite.

What you need to do is tell him to reformat and reinstall the OS if it's that much of an inconvenience. He should of also notified you straight away not 2 weeks after receiving the item. Applications never take that long to load even under OS 9 so he's talking garbage and trying to scam you out of your money, and as far as I know the boot times out or would remain on the grey screen without anything happening, not take 10 mins to boot up and eventually log into the system.

Argue it out mate, there are so many scum on ebay who try this.

If he says he wants to return it then that's your choice but if it isn't listed on the listing as returns accepted you can say no thanks

if it took 15 mins to load a program i wouldn't have owned it for 3 years...

I've already said I do not accept returns... if it was buggered, then as you said it wouldn't boot at all and stick on the grey screen before the little wheel and logo pops up.

Obviously it's not as quick as it seemed 3 years ago, but then that's because everything else runs alot faster these days so it's going to feel slow and to be as fluent. OSX was upto date and everything though.

I told them, 2 weeks is un-acceptable and they could have downloaded/deleted something or done anything to it in that period. Not my problem.

They've been asking for a return address, which is balls as all my details are on a security sticker on the laptop!

I'm not gonna send them the money.

it's a used laptop. they should expect to maybe have to reformat it etc.

write your response to paypal and go from there, cos that's just rediculous. they've prob installed some shit on it.

i could understand if he recieved it and it was scratched, or mashed to fuck...

but 2 weeks after, hes probably been watching brazzillian farm porn or something....

    HAHA another level...Brazilian Farm Porn!?!?

    haha... cracked me up!

I've left 3 messages on paypal explaining that they could have done anything to it in the 2 week time period between receiving it and complaining.

Obviously it was used and I deleted all my music & photo's ETC...

but they wanted all the software (adobe suite & office and so on) so that's bound to use some of the HD, which they even complained wasn't as free as they expected.!!!

shit buddy makes me not want to use paypal for anything like that.

I think I will ask for payment to be sent by some other method from now one if I sell something that sort of money.

mate thats complete bullshit!!! they just realized that they don't want the goods and want a refund.. or they fucked the laptop and point the finger to you.. IIRC its an electronic goods so there is no warranty especially if the item/unit is second hand/preowned.. i believe that this is a law..
  13. Jasonday2007 Club Veteran ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

yeh exactly.. .they tried to upgrade it, fucked it up, then pointed the finger at me claiming that's how i sent it to them... bullshit i tell you.

has seriously taken me about a month to get through to a human at paypal UK aswell!

I want my paypal sorted so I can crack on importing rare parts i win!

    this happened to me just last month;

i sold Del Sol headlights to a guy who then turns around and says can i mail them to germany, so i thought hmm, ok. took pics as i wrapped them up, sent them and he got them and immediately he raised a "not sold as seen" dispute. so paypal put my money on hold and he wrote that they had broken brackets and he couldn't use them. so i told him to prove they were broken with pictures, and that i had proof that they were complete and intact before they were sent. no word after that! eventually paypal closed it and released my money...

i reckon hes a chancer and thinks he can get the item and the money back!
  15. Jasonday2007 Club Veteran ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

at least you never got your item back broken... then expected to re-emburse paypal for the refund they honoured in favour of a lying buyer.
  16. haggis Club Veteran ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

i always put on ebay auctions that i don't take refunds under any circumstances

never been in this situation so don't know if that would cover me or not
  17. EGplease Club Veteran ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

    mate listen to me!!!!!

fuck him fuck pay pal fuck em all!!!!

in 14 days you can fuck up a laptop quite easily if you download something and get a virus or anything like that. pure and simple.

its like buying a mcD's and returning it two hours later complaining its cold. its bullshit

on top of that you stated you don't accept returns so there you go buyer beware. pure and simple.

like i said mate fuck em and if you want me to fight em i will

Mate can you see when that was installed? THe program....if so do a print screen...or take a photo....then give them the date it was sent...and the date you recieved it back...and Proove to them that the shitty software/update that fucked it was installed in the period you didnt have the laptop....

Either way...tell them to go fuck themselves
  19. Jason S Valued Contributor ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆

Agreed, check the properties of the software and see when it was loaded. That should cover you then.
