8th Generation (2008-2015) vehicle added by Bounder, Friday 17th Aug, 2018
Bounder added a new Honda to the garage:
New to Me.
Check the vehicle's full information here.
Fitted Genuine Rubber mats this weekend, no hassle fitment and look nice, the rubber smell disappears after a couple of days.
I've got them too. Perfect fit and easy.
Next job is new Air and fuel filters. Ordered them from my local Honda place today, while checking the air filter one of the captive bolts that hold the lid down snapped on me. Another thing to sort.
New Air Fuel and Pollen filters installed, Old ones were manky, covered in black stuff and grotty.
Genuine Honda ones installed, next up is transmission fluid change, oil change and in another 2.5k coolant change.
Those little waisted 5x28mm airbox bolts snap very easily!
Gearbox oil changed for new MTF, also an oil change and fresh oil.
Rubber boot protector as well, next job is to flush the brake and clutch fluids and I will be up to date on the maintenance front for a while hopefully.
mate sounds like you have been busy with her....
I like to have a baseline to work from when I get a new vehicle, it doesn’t take that much to keep things right and avoid problems.
Nearly forgot also picked up a new Aux belt to fit as well.
That might get to go on this weekend.
Aux belt fitted, easy enough job as long as you have an extra long 0° offset 14mm box spanner and you undo the little plastic cover in the drivers wheel arch.
Only the clutch and brake fluids need replacing and I really have to do the coolant, its due at 62.5k and mine is now 63k
She's getting plenty of TLC
Yeah it pays off in the long run, its peace of mind as well.
The Aux belt could probably have done another 60k but it looked a bit rusty and I would rather change it now then have it snap somewhere inconvenient.
My last Tourer was running perfectly up until it was written off and I hop to keep this one running as well.
mate she worth doing the job's on she is a honda...
Second oil change done now, odo at 68750 miles so 6500 since last change, I went with a Mann filter this time purely for expediency, I have no problems using Mann although I usually use the Mahle/Knecht ones as they are OEM, interestingly the Mann has a slightly bigger filter area compared to the Mahle/Knecht one as it doesn't have the little plastic top hats each end.
New Ferodo Discs and pads, While changing them I noticed the Honda branded ones were made by Jurid, and the rubber bellows seals around the pistons are damaged, either from contacting the pad back or maybe rubber grease has swollen them.
Either way they will need to be rebuilt. I priced genuine kits from Honda @€104+vat and genuine from Ebay @£23 +postage from Japan. quite a lot of difference!
The Akebono two pot calipers are not common to many cars unlike the ATE fitted to the rest of the Accord range
Coolant still not changed but on the to-do list.
Brake fluid either.
Some pics of the job
Towbar fitted, typical Honda quality. Made by Bosal.
Are you buying pistons as well for the rebuild or just seals?
Just seals. The pistons looked OK when I stripped the boot back a bit.
They clean up well in my experience rebuilding brakes.
Fuel filter fitted yesterday, Genuine Honda, the drain plug is inconvenient to get to but did drain the filter after being wound out about 5-6 turns.
