A little update. got the valves adjusted yesterday. Turns out a neighbor (who used to work with an Aunt years ago) is actually an ex REME VM which will be very hand in the future. Dropped him the keys off yesterday and he had it back in an hour. He said it was quite a state, all 4 plugs were improperly gapped and were screwed in less than hand tight. Valves now clearing properly, plugs gapped and throttle assy sorted, which I think was the 'dead spot' problem as the couple miles i have done today i haven't noticed it. Only thing i have noticed is that first thing (esp on such a cold morning) the engine sounds really rough, but i assume thats down to the oil. Oil itself is in good condition, so I assume it due to grade. Oil and filter change next week i think. What is the getter grade to use? 10w40, 5w30, semi synth, fully synth?
Engine shouldn't sound after valve clearances it should sound quicker.
Was the engine stone cold when valve clearances were done ?
It does sound quicker and it was stone cold when done. as i said, it's only on cold mornings, could be just initial warming up noise I can hear as it stops after 5-10 mins once the engine is warmed
Could just be clatter from fuel injectors.
is that normal?
Injectors do tend be a little noisier when cold.
