Honda have issued this to all dealers for the 10th Generation Civic Introduction Honda Connect is an internet connected audio system that not only plays audio via various sources (FM/AM, DAB, iPod, USB, and Bluetooth), it also uses the customers Smartphone or mobile Wi-FI device as an internet source for other audio / video. It also provides the Hands Free Telephone (HFT) functions and there is the option to have GPS based navigation. Before the customer receives their new car, the Honda Connect unit will require an update to be carried out to ensure that the customer gets the very latest versions of the on-board applications etc. and also register the cars VIN on to the system. This update should be carried out as part of the PDI process and will require the Honda Connect unit connecting to the internet via Wi-FI to download the update. This service bulletin includes: - The pre requisite steps required before carrying out the update process. - The update process itself. Pre requisite steps These are the steps that should be carried out before the Honda Connect update process. 1. Confirming the unit has the correct date and time via its GPS location. 2. Preparing the vehicle conditions. 3. Making a suitable Wi-FI connection. After the update is carried out, the Wi-FI connection should be deleted to avoid the customer inadvertently connecting to your dealers Wi-FI network. Confirm correct date and time The date and time is set by GPS, so after the shipping fuses have been installed, the vehicle should be positioned outside away from buildings to detect the satellites which will give it its GPS position. This can be confirmed on the Honda connect in the following ways: 1. Press [HOME] (A) and confirm that the GPS location has been found, either by the satellite icon on the status bar (B) is displayed and is not flashing or by touching and swiping down on the status bar (C) to show the status screen. 2.Confirm the Location has been found by GPS and the date and time (D) are correct. Press [BACK] (E) to exit the status screen. Vehicle conditions During the update process the engine either needs to be running or the Ignition needs to be in the ON (II) position combined with a suitable battery power back up e.g. Midtronics charger in power supply mode. The vehicle needs to be parked in range of your chosen Wi-FI network and left stationary with the handbrake applied during the update. Making a Wi-Fi connection 1. Press [HOME] (A) and then select "Settings" (B). Select "Bluetooth / Wi-FI" (C). Select "Wi-FI On/Off Status" (D). Change 2. Select "Bluetooth / Wi-FI" (C). 3. Select "Wi-FI On/Off Status" (D). 4. Change the status to "On" (E). 5. Confirm the operation by selecting "Yes" (F). 6. Select "Wi-FI Device List" (G). 7. Select your suitable workshop Wi-FI network from the list (H). NOTE: If you do not find the Wi-FI network you want in the list, then select "Scan". If the Wi-FI network you want is still not in the list, try moving the car closer to the Wi-FI router. 8. Select "Add" (I). 9. Using the keyboard, type in the required password for your chosen Wi-FI network (J) and select "Done" (K). 10. Honda Connect will connect to the desired Wi-FI network. 11. Confirmation that the Wi-FI is connected will be shown. Press [Home] (L) to return to the Home screen. Confirming required updates The App Centre symbol (A) on the status bar identifies that there are required updates to be carried out. If you swipe down on the status bar (B), the status screen will also show available updates. Press [BACK] (C) to exit the status screen. Update process 1. Press [HOME] (A) and then for navigation models, select the left screen icon (B). NOTE: For non navigation models the App Centre App is on this first Home screen. 2. Select "App Centre" App (C). 3. The App Centre will open and check for updates. 4. Select the "Activate & Update" button (D). 5. The App Centre update will download. 6. Once downloaded, you will be asked to install the application, Select “Next” (E). 7. Select "Install" to install the App (F). 8. The App will be installed. 9. Once installed, select "Open" (G). 10. The App Centre will load data to open. 11. Select your required country and language, using the drop down arrow (H). 12. Countries are listed in alphabetical order, select the required one (I). 13. Select "OK" to confirm (J). 14. The App Centre will load data to open. 15. Select "I agree" (K) to confirm the terms and conditions. 16. Select "My Apps" (L). 17. Select "Update all" (M) to carry out the available updates. 18. The Apps will download. 19. Select "Install" (N) to install the Applist update. 20. Select "Done" (O). 21. Select "Install" (P) to install the Aha Radio update. NOTE: Depending on the speed of your Wi-FI connection there may be a delay in this Aha Radio install screen appearing. The Aha Radio download can appear to freeze at 99%, this is normal. 22. Select "Done" (Q). 23. Press [HOME] (R) to exit out of the App Centre. 24. You can confirm that there are no further updates required because the icon (S) have gone from the top status bar. NOTE: It may require the ignition to be turned off and back on again for this icon to change.
