    Yo,

When ever i try to put my car into first for slowing down to a junction, the gear box has started making a weird whirling noise...(sounds like Dr.Zoidberd from futurama)... and also its really hard to get it in gear, feels like you have to jam it into place..

Any ideas what this could be? and how it can be fixed?

    Cheers

aw, the way i read that it was really difficult to get into any gear

i'd try gettin a new gearbox

people literally give them away (d14 gearboxes that is)

clutch release bearing going perhaps?, hence the whirling and difficulty getting it into gear

    sounds like synchros to me

    Just swap the box

    stick a y8 or z6 box on it !

    You sure its a problem?

All three of my Civics have done that, not in a bad way but the first gear and reverse are noisy anyway (depending on how soon you bring the clutch in) ie if the car starts engine braking...

Also you can't just shove 1st gear in place very easy untill the car is going slow (dunno if its a problem) but has never caused me any problems over the space of a few years i just asumed it was like that to save you jaming 1st gear in place if you was going too quick for it... ?

its a good point sir!, TBH honda's are well known for having trouble getting into first gear, if your stationary if you put it into reverse then put it in first it usually does back in first time

the whirling would suggest there is a problem though

nope no slipping at all so im guessing the clutch is fine.
