This guide is to assist owners who have a bizarre wheel vibration or wobble even after repeated wheel balancing and tyre rotation the problem still persists.Cars with low profile tyres and big rims are more prone to this sort of off behaviour and will find themselves repeatedly frustrated with an unpredictable car.

This guide is not definitive but pointers for owners to get to a point and troubleshoot the car.
Prerequisites for this task.
- Your vehicle has to be in good overall working condition and health.
- No suspension related component should be worn or damaged.
- Tyres should have sufficient tread and in perfect condition i.e. ( No bulging side walls, tears ,thread worn to the steel, tyres on all four axles should be of the same make and type.)
- Ensure the tyres fitted are directional, make sure the correct wheel and tyre is fitted to Left Hand and Right Hand.
- The rims should not be bent and should be true. see below for DTI measurement.
- Wheel bearing don't exhibit excessive play and wear.
- No brake binding of any nature.
- Properly inflated tyres.
- No missing wheel lug nuts
- Wheel lugs nuts are torqued to the specified torque and evenly.
- All four wheel have been balanced and checked and both inner and outer circumferences should read nil-nil
- Four wheel alignments done accurately for the car model and the steering spoke angle should be head ahead in the middle.
- Get wheel alignment on a Hunter machine*and the track record for Accord on this machine is very good it transforms the cars balance.
- If any specific wheel has had two or more punctures repairs look to change the tyre at the earliest opportunity.
- Wheel balance weight should not exceed 50 grams per wheel (if it does you HAVE to replace the rim as it past it serviceable life)
- Refurnished alloys where rims have been welded up, dressed and then painted are prone to balance at abnormal weights. (avoid them as far as possible as they cannot be balanced accurately)
- Look up any Honda TSB (technical service bulletin) posted on here in their respective vehicle section to see if the known issue has been addressed by Honda.
All of the above prerequisites have to meet before you proceed to troubleshoot the abnormal vibration.
Wheel Runout Inspection
If owners have workshop manuals its best to look up the Wheel Runout Inspection procedures, if you don't seek help from a Honda dealer for these settings and parameters. On request these can be provided to members.
L=Low point of Wheel.
Mark the LOW point of the wheel with some masking tape (from DTI reading)
On removal of the tyre physically inspect the tyres for all sorts of damage with a bright LED torch or light.
- Remove all the old weights from the tyre and if possible make a reading of the weight removed by looking at the makings.
- Clean the inner rims of all dirt and grime, with help of a solvent remove the tape residual from removed stick-on weights.
- Inflate the tyres to 50 Psi
- Mount the wheel on the wheel balancing machine ensuring the central nut is central to the axis.
- Run the program on the balancing machine and see what the machine comes out with on the inner and outer circumference.
- Attach the weight as per the machine on the visual locator reference mark or hear the audible beeps.
- If the weight is below 50 grams run the programme again to see the results come to NIL NIL on both circumferences.
- Remove the wheel from the balancing machine and deflate the tyre pressure to the recommend Psi as per the axle where it will be fitted.
Wheel /Tyre Phase adjustment procedure.
1) Check on the outer wall of the tyre for a RED paint spot. This is the RFV mark. (maximum radial force variation) The High point of the tyre.
2) If a RED paint spot exists, no measurement is required. Please go to step 8.
3) Attach a DTI gauge to the car with the use of a magnetic clamp. Make sure the base is secure and
positioned so that the DTI probe makes contact with the tyre tread surface.
4) Zero / Reset the DTI. Mark the tyre in this area so you can measure when 1 full revolution has been completed.
5) Turn the wheel slowly though 1 revolution and monitor gauge reading for the highest value.
6) This highest reading determines the highest point of the wheel/tyre. Please record reading and proceed to mark the sidewall of the tyre in this highest point with tape.
7) Make a note of the difference between High and Low figures
8) Repeat the procedure on the other 3 wheel and tyre assemblies fitted to the vehicle.
9) Take each wheel and tyre assembly and proceed to separate the tyre from the rim using plenty of soap solution.
10) Secure the wheel rim whilst moving the tyre to the point where the highest point of the tyre lines up with the low mark on the wheel rim.
11) Re-inflate the tyres and carry out dynamic wheel balance procedure.
12) Repeat this procedure on the 3 remaining wheels and tyres.
13) Select the 2 wheels which required the least amount of correction and proceed to fit these to the front of the vehicle. The remaining 2 wheels are then fitted to the back. Please note if tyres fitted are directional, make sure the correct wheel and tyre is fitted to LH and RH.
You will need to find a garage who is willing to allow you to spend time in troubleshooting this,as time is money of a lot garages expect to find technically minded people interested in dealing with such issues.
Wheel Vibration Troubleshooting
